Through the Heads of the Valleys Public Art Programme, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council’s Cultural Services has been successful in securing funds for the development of Public Art for Treorchy. Rhondda Cynon Taff Community Arts have been commissioned to develop a public art strategy for Treorchy.
Local people are being given the chance to have their say. We would like your ideas about suitable sites and what sort of artwork it might be? Do you have ideas about artists or themes? You can send in your ideas, sketches, photographs, maps or local stories, and contribute your ideas and opinions to this debate.
Between 18 – 20 March there was a marquee on the old chapel site next to the Park and Dare. This art4treorchy event housed an exhibition of work produced by local people. The works were the result of a series of workshops held at different venues throughout Treorchy. Over 350 people visited the exhibition – some took part in workshops to paint a mural for Treorchy station and create a temporary sculpture for the chapel site – others posted comments and ideas for public artworks for the town. Although the marquee has come down there is still chance to have your say via this web-site or by post to Louise Shenstone – art4treorchy is just the start of a long programme of works and activities looking at siting public artworks in the town and surrounding area. Sending in contributions is not difficult, to respond on line click on the tab “have your say” and follow the links.
